***repost***

Hey guys! It's that time of the year again in which Amy and I sit down
and discuss the Fashions from the Darkside Fashion Show. We have a
date! The show will be held on Friday, September 19th.

Currently we are seeking previous designers that were in last year's
show, as well as new and experienced local designers, to showcase
their talents in our annual fashion show. Although the night is mainly
gothic/industrial, we embrace all types of styles and talents. Last
year we had local designers such as Rachelle Campbell Designs, Blue
Alvarez Designs, Black Bird Mercantile, and Rayne Grace. This year,
we'd love to have YOU!

If you're interested in placing your designs in the show, please
respond with all inquiries to craftscouture@yahoo.com or
amy@gothicmaine.com and we will get back to you ASAP.

Thank you!

I have lots to do this weekend. This is a great thing. Last night I had a blast. Erin, Mike, and I went to PLAGUE together and then we went to Nate's afterparty. It was super fun wrestling with Melian and getting rug burns and taking face plants into the carpet. I love having the battle scars to show for it. ;D

This weekend I have to study for my Bio111 final. The prof. said that if I can get all of the questions right to all of the past tests, then I should be fine going into the final. The questions and diagrams are going to be similar, but reworded a little. SO! Going to study the shit out of my past tests, study important diagrams, and brush upon the vocab. I should be fine if I study all night tonight and tomorrow and Monday.

One of those days I'm going to sit down with Max so he can help me create my long overdue website. I already have my domain name and hosting. All I need to do is actually build it. I even prepared my paypal account to get things ready for launch. I have a general idea and outline of how I want the page to look. It's a very simple and elegant design, I think...not too flashy. I can't wait to pick out the colors to use and go shopping for fonts gallore!!! Eeeeeeeeeeeeee!!! I'll be doing that in between studying all weekend. Hopefully it'll be up within the next week.

I've been un-officially seeing whether or not people would be interested in being a part of the second annual Fashions From the Darkside show and there is a lot of interest. Amy and I will be racking our brains soon and sitting down to discuss more on it. But, I always think about things well in advance.

Max's birthday is next month too. I need to figure out what I'm doing for him to make it a very special one. Hrrmm...and I know he'd be reading this so he's not going to know that easy. NICE TRY!!! But we will be going to an amusement park definitely to celebrate his sexiness. ;D

SO!!! Can't wait to have my website. Can't wait for this semester to be over with so I can go back to the gym again on a regular basis. Can't wait to take back my summer!!! I actually get to swim this summer!!! YAY!!! And go on more ROLLERCOASTERS!!! ROCKIN!!!

Oh, and I'm looking forward to Joie's Pahty this Saturday!!! Passion and Mechanical Bulls!!! Can't get better than that!!! Oh...wait...What if I could be eating candy while riding the bull?!?! That'd be even better!!!

hehe!!!

mood: sleepy sleepy

Todays' been a pretty chill day. I usually have Mondays off, anyway. After yesterday and having such an awesome time with everyone, I decided to stay home today and relax. I caught up on long overdue laundry and I swept the kitchen floor and mopped it....that was wayyyyyy overdue. It's really nice to walk down to the kitchen and have it finally clutter free and sparkling clean. We've all been busy with each of our duties, especially the past few months. I can't clean as much as I'd like to while I'm in school...cleaning relaxes me and it's rewarding, so it was good to do that today.

[info]mickey_murder and I watched Elizabeth: The Golden Ages last night and it was phenominal. The story was beautiful and the costumes were breath-taking. They definitely inspired me to make clothing like that....to aspire to the next level. I just wish I had the extra money to afford that much fabric. One of those outfits probably need 8 yards of fabric, at least. And the fabric I want to make them from doesn't come cheap. I think I shall budget for that and hopefully be able to make one, if not two for the fashion show in September. I would be oh so ecstatic!!!

Tonight, we're going over Theresa and Erin's house to have Passover dinner and play Scrabble. I can't wait to hang out and have a great time. It should be lots of fun!!!

When I get home, I think I'm going to look up patterns from the Elizabethan era and start my research. Also, I think I'm going to go the library sometime this week to look at old books and such. Anyone care to go? I'll probably go Friday or hopefully sooner.

mood: peaceful peaceful

Today was absolutely perfect. I mean, it couldn't have gotten any better if it tried. A whole bunch of us went to Bradbury Mountain today. [info]mickey_murder, me, Theresa, Jay, [info]tygerwillow, Rocco, Sue Ellen, and Leo had such a blast!!! The weather was perfect for hiking. We walked through the Formica quarry, up towards the summit. Rocco, me, and Max took amazing photos on the way. There were times where weren't hiking on trails, venturing into the less chartered lands. Deer droppings and rotting leaves indicated animals that were no more. It seemed as though they knew winter had left for a while and they packed all they're belongings to trek further into the wilderness where people were less likely to disturb their natural order. I took really beautiful photos and we were fortunate enough to find a rotting deer corpse that lay beside a tree. The skull had split open and flies were hovering above its shedding body. It looked as if it had died peacefully during the winter, giving up to the warming weather and returning to the earth from which it came from. I made sure I documented something so natural and peaceful with my camera. We walked past small running brooks and trickling melting snow, weaving in and out of bark crevices, while leaves acted as spouts directing the water down towards the base of the hill. I thought to myself that this is where all inspiration, every idea for invention and evolution came from...the earth. The natural innovation and practicality mimicked modernity completely. We walked along stone walls that were placed as a perimeter hundreds of years ago, passing ponds with life thriving within it, the frogs croaking and the birds chirping at their oasis. When we finally got back to our cars, we had hiked for almost two hours, at least 3 miles.

It was something all of us needed and I was glad to had shared that with friends and family. The weather was perfect. Afterwards, [info]mickey_murder, me and Theresa went to Friendly's and ate until our hearts were overly content. We rented video games and a movie for the rest of the night. A great time is still ahead for us this evening and many more for the future.

This weekend has been a very special one and I feel even more close with the friends I've talked with more and have gotten to know on much more levels.

I can't wait to see what this summer holds. Definitely many memories, many amusement parks, many vacations, laughs, and great times.

What a great day!!! :D

[info]mickey_murder, I adore you because you're an inspiration. You're the strongest, most stubborn, passionate person I know when it comes to your love of certain things. Your art is incredibly heartfelt and it gets better each time you put a brush, pen, or pencil to the canvas. You always know how to even me out when I'm upset or stressed. You're not only a passionate lover, you're a passionate friend, my best friend. You surprise me all of the time and we always have adventures no matter the situation. We've been together during, possibly, the most hard and trying times of our lives and have come out of it stronger and loving each other more for it each and every day. And most of all, I love you because you make me happy and inspire me to be myself and to always reach for my dreams no matter how crazy they seem, while being there for me every step of the way. That's why I adore you.

Hey!!! You asked for it, so I gave it to you!!! <3

Blonde moment # 82912

Apr. 12th, 2008 | 10:36 am
mood: cheerful cheerful

So, yesterday when I was dying my hair, instead of putting the actual hair color in the developer, I put the conditioner in the developer...and I was wondering why the balck wasn't coming out. I only found out what I did by cleaning the blue from my sink and in the process finding the black dye sitting in front of me in it's bottle. I was used to over-the-counter dyes to come in cream form and I was rushing...hahahahhaa...DOY!!!

So, it was a happy mistake. I put the blue in all of my hair and only left it in for 15 minutes and the whole head turned blue. Where I bleached it, it's a lighter blue and where I didn't, it's a darker blue. The biggest shocker?!?! I couldn't believe the blue took on hair that wasn't bleached. Before, it was color-removed, but who knows...it came out perty damn cool.

So, now I'm at work, typing away in my little space. It's quiet and restful as can be and I'm glad it's not busy. It gives me time to relax and not have to use my voice. My cough is getting worse and I think I'm fighting a chest cold. Lots of Tylenol pm for me....I have the next two days off, so I'm flyin.

YAY!!! Well, I also want to mention that last night was incredible on so many levels. I was glad to be in the company of good friends during a time of grief and remembrance for papa. We raised many glasses to him and celebrated who he was as a person. Max, Erin, and I also went to Sindi's fashion show at the Space for WMPG. It was great to see everyone and say hi to all the designers and some of the models from last year. Great times last night at The Space, The White Heart, Plague, and Wally and Janice's. What a fantastic night...Thank you, all, for being part of such an awesome evening. How could I ever forget moustaches on my sneaker and thumb wrestling outside of the White Heart? I could never!!!

Gotta go now...have a counseling session!!!

OIL
April 3 to April 26th
Opening: Saturday, April 5, 2008 5PM-9PM
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Portland, Maine– 3 Fish Gallery is pleased to announce "OIL", a group show featuring the artwork of Scott Behr, Cole Caswell, Jesse Cregar, Lisa Dombek, Lynne Drexler, Sarah Emerson, Matt Enger, Adriane Gainer, Jessica George, Erin Leon, Max M. Leon, Kristin Melin, Kelly McConnell, Martha Piscuskas, Kimberly Sexton. With a cello performance by Timothy Garrett, on exhibit from April 3rd until April 26th. The show, curated by Erin Leon, aims to engage the public to take a closer look at the ubiquitous term "oil" in a time when we face an inevitable oil crisis.

"OIL" attempts to open wider a dialogue concerning the ripple effect over the environment, the economy, the war, agriculture and art. Asking, "What are the prospects for the future when the world has become reliant on petroleum based oil?" Just about everything in our daily lives operates on a unreplenishable substance....the paint we use, the coffee we drink, the cars we drive...we cannot eat a simple breakfast without crude. It has become difficult to ignore.

The works on exhibit visually contrast in interpretation and material, yet Leon has created a certain semblance that unites them with a ominous hum. Painterly in style, artists Kelly McConnell, Lynne Drexler and Jessica George concentrate on the method of moving oil paint, mixing color and laying it on canvas.Kelly McConnell, who is also the art specialist at the Breakwater School and an arts educator at the Maine College of Art seems content to explore oil's possibilities on the palette and the canvas. Her work entitled Oil almost feels as if it has been submerged in a vat of petroleum. The gorgeous color of scarlet lake pierces th eye with corpulent, yellow amoeba-like shapes boldly floating on the surface. Lynne Drexler's painting Blue # IV was created in 1960, shortly after Lynne had studied with Hans Hofmann and Robert Motherwell. Lynne's attention to the oil paint brushstrokes and color is intimate and her works are truly spectacular. The Monhegan Museum and the Portland Museum of Art will exhibit retrospectives of Lynne's paintings this summer and the year end respectively. Jessica George, a graduate student at the Maine College of Art, paints in the "plein air" method of painting, painting on site. Her works are like little treasures....the weight of golden bricks...canvas stretched over blocks of wood. She applies oil paint with a knife only. The texture is thick and the colors feel like the ocean currents, swirling blue greens and deep ultramarine.

Then there are the artists that are more interested in oil as a commodity, i.e petroleum oil and the effect it has had over our everyday life. Artist Martha Piscuskas' work 21.II is an installation of 21 intravenous medical bags filled with refined crude oil dripping slowly onto the ground. It is a metaphor of our consumption. Oil becomes a lifeblood...the cost of a war for oil is life lost...and far too many. New York artist, Matthew Enger's work "deathzone001" is a painting of a skull that eerily shines under bright red paint the color of blood applied as if it were thrown and suggests the aftermath of endless thirst. MECA graduate student, Cole Caswell has assembled a book of stark black and white photos of South Portland's oil tank farm. Unable to get too close, the photos seem to peer from behind fences. One feels as if they are sneaking upon something big and bad. Using GPS data and topographical mapping software he then creates abstract shapes of the location points where the photographs were taken. In her painting, Alchemize I, artist Lisa Dombek feels the melancholy of war for oil...a ghostly figure of a crouched woman weeps under a slate-grey haze for an innocent creature lifeless on the bottom of the canvas. While a black submarine looms overhead as if it is fishing for more.

Then there are the artists in the show that seem to interpret oil in its relationship to the body. Artist Kimberly Sexton from New York has used oil blotter papers to create a entymologist like sculpture. She pins the used oil sheets, taken from the random skin of strangers, onto wood as if it were a DNA science experiment.

There are many other engaging works in the show and it is one that shouldn't be missed. As always, Leon's exhibits promise to be a happening.
